One of the best days of my life as a dad (or possibly ever) came in the strangest of settings. I was trimming the tree in the front yard (poorly, I might add). My son stopped by on his way to torment his sister. He says, “Did you know that when you pull leaves from a tree, its’ like pulling a person’s hair?”

I looked at him and said, “never thought of it that way, so I guess I’m trimming some of the wild hairs from the tree?” No reaction.

He then asked why I was trimming the tree the way that I was. I explained that I needed to so the tree doesn’t die. “Especially the branches that grow straight up, those can snuff out the other branches and eventually harm the tree”

He looked at me and said “Wow, I didn’t’ learn that at Science Camp; I learn a lot more from you.” And then walked away, not realizing what he had just said or how much impact it had on me.

I thanked God for that moment, absolutely priceless!

Yep, best day ever!

My 3 kids are amazing! Here’s why. A neighbor of ours who walks her two dogs 2 times a day, my kids play outside every day (what a concept?). The know every dog in the neighborhood. Well just the other day one of her dogs died. My kids wanted to something for her. This was their own idea, not their parents idea. They each contributed to making a card and wanted to buy her flowers. They delivered them the other day and it made her week. I am so grateful for these kids…

She then tells me that she is disappointed because she wants the babysitter to stay longer, so could I stay longer at work? (see above)I don’t understand women, even little women.

So it begins…The last of the children to wear the padded underwear. Now, officially in big girl pants. She loves the idea of being a big girl and leaving the diapers behind. However, I forgot how hard it is and how much laundry it creates. We’ve gone 2 days and it’s been okay, but it’s getting tougher, because now we have to incorporate life and others into the non-diaper world. We’ll be travelling today for 45 minutes on the road to Grandma’s house. Grandma gets to work on it today. Later this week, she’ll be in someone elses care ant they have to “deal” with it.The best part though is people are very understanding, because we were all there at one point in time.
